We got a good starting position last night (pole) and just walked the dog on em (3/4 of a straightaway) in the 2nd heat race. In the feature race we started outside pole and had a good battle for about two laps until the CRX got by him, after that, it was all over. The CRX won the feature by a half a straightaway. I feel awsome about this because I was listening to a guy trying to sell his car saying he had Keith Black pistons an HO cam, ported heads and all this stuff, and mine is bone stock with 176,000 miles and is kicking major A$$. Looks like the little mods I did between this race and the last, really paid off. The current points leader finished 4'th and if I didn't have to miss a race the week before last, I might be in the points lead right now. It's all good, we have all season to make up those points. Keep runnin em hard a givin em hell
& I'll let ya know what happens next week.

Re: CRX smokes Neon on dirt & finshes 1st place
It's not so much driving skill as it is hard work, determination and a kick ass & take names later mentality. If it weren't for a fast dependable car, I couldn't drive as hard as I do on the track.

Re: CRX smokes Neon on dirt & finshes 1st place
you mentioned that you did some mods on it. what have you done to it? i've driven my crx out on desert trails and its fun on loose sand but the suspension didn't like rough road.

Re: CRX smokes Neon on dirt & finshes 1st place
It has had all of the interior gutted including all glass. In all I believe that I have removed about 500 pounds out af a 1880 lb car, that helps the car have more clearance and helps it to handle the track a little better. In place of the stock seat I put in a Kirkey aluminum race seat w/ 5 point harness. The stock gas tank is gone and in its place I have a small plastic marine tank from wal-mart strapped in the trunk. Alternator and a/c are gone, and so is the pulley that turns them.
K & N cone style air cleaner which will soon be ran into the passenger side compartment for cold air intake (Keeps it from getting packed with mud).Took out the thermostat and put in a flat washer which cooled the car down and tricked the computer into thinking the car was cold, in turn the computer richened up the fuel mixture. I then put a hotter coil on it to burn that extra fuel. I leaned all my tires to the left to get my tread patterns down on the ground (on a oval track thats important). I toasted the stock tranny in my second or third race so I went with a civic 4-door tranny which lowered the gear ratio in second gear, I put taller/wider tires on it to get my gear ratio just right, now it's almost perfect, it hits the rev limiter @ 7200 RPM's @ the very end of the front stretch. Rapid fire plugs, accel 8mm plug wires. Full cage from front to rear and that's about it. |
