Unhappy 96 engine won't start after rebuild

Just did a small rebuild on the engine (new head gaskets and stuff). The engine turns but refuses to start. Double checked wiring connections, and it smells like I have gas. Do not have spark.

This is a 3.1L VIN M engine, the vehicle does have a (factory?) secutiry system on it (which I have no idea if this is causing a problem).

Please help!!

Ric

Re: 96 engine won't start after rebuild

Make sure that the Crankshaft Position Sensor is still plugged in on the sensor itself and the wire connected to the ICM (Ignition Control Module). Make sure that the ICM power source is plugged in.

Check the engine bay fuse/relay panel aside from the fuse/relay panel inside the vehicle.

Make sure that the plug wires going to the ECM (computer) is plugged in tight. You might think it is connected but probably not pushed in good and tight.

When you check for spark, try to use an adjustable spark tester. Don't just try to unplug the spark plug wire and try to put it close to the engine block is it might not have enough distance for the spark to jump.

Found the answer. I had a connector to the distributer buried under the intake manifold, and a friend plugged the under hood light in it.
