where to put the fuel pump

i'm having a bit of a problem, i put a 2110cc engine in my 1968ish beetle(1968ish becuase the previous owner did some pretty odd stuff to it with different year parts) and i'm currently replacing the stock fuel pump with a facet solid state one. the problem is where to put it. when i put it where the stock one is it can't get enough push by gravity to supply it with fuel and even when i put it on the rear engine tin it still doesn't get enough fuel. it will start and idle for a while but then die, but it took a lot longer to die after i put it lower on the rear engine tin. when it was here the fuel came out of the hose a little bit but nothing like it did where the fuel line comes out of the body. after looking underneath the car i don't see a good place to put it in front of the engine and was wondering if there was another good place to put it. i still have the stock fuel line which disappears into the body by the drivers side rear wheel. i have duel 44idf's, and a pressure regulator. i know the carberators work well because they ran alright with the stock pump but would hesitate on acceleration. is there a good self priming pump that wouldn't need to be placed lower than the tank that's useable on beetles? any help would be greatly appreciated.

there was this one guy who used an electric holly fuel pump and mounted it right next to the fuel tank. don't know if thats any help. err. thats all I know and he had a T4 in his bug. sorry I can't help ya out too much man

It is always better to push the fuel then pull it. Better to put it close to the tank. With that said we have never had any problems with installing the facet solid state pump up close to the carbs. Sounds like you need to tune the carbs. To much cam will cause the hesatition also. Vic.

If you put it down under the fuel tank, you will want to put clamps on the hoses that will be between the pump and the carb. These lines have no clamps as they are not intended to be pressurized. They are gravity feed lines to your original pump. You do not want to induce a leak. Clark

Why would you want to put an electric fuel pump on a Bug? It serves no purpose?

I had one on mine just becaus eI was a kid and it was layin around when I build my bug. I ran a new line from the tank and put the pump right beside the tank. worked good for me
