cracked rotor, stripped screw.

Figured out why my car doesnt want to start some times, the rotor is burnt and is cracked. Went to take the rotor off, was using the "high security" bit and the fucking screw is so tight that it still stripped the head out. Now I'm stuck with a cracked/burnt rotor and no way to get the piece of shit off. I dont have a drill-out bit or anything and I need the car for work. Anyone know how the hell to get it out, I'v tried everything I can think of.

Re: cracked rotor, stripped screw.

If you have a dremel you can try to cut a slot across the head of the screw so you can get a flat head in there, but be carefull of the wiring around the rotor.

Drill out the screw, they aren't needed. Once you have the rotor off, just get the remainder of the screw to be flush with the rest of the metal.

Uh, sure you don't need that screw until your rotor falls off when your driving.

Re: cracked rotor, stripped screw.

I could drill the screw out and rethread it and put a larger one in it. Anyone know if its extreamely sensative to balance? I know most arnt, but I'v never did this to one of these motors.

You can drill out the existing screw & put in a bigger one. Last time I had rotor issues I just ended up putting a bigger screw in (because my threads were so worn that the original screw would fall out over time). Haven't had a problem since.

If it falls out again I'm drillin' a hole on the opposite side of the rotor & putting a nut & bolt on that bitch

Re: cracked rotor, stripped screw.

Can you use just any screw? I heard that it should be replaced by one from the dealer.

Sure you can, as long as the threads match you can use any screw. The dealer item has some thread lock on is so it's less likely to loosen. But you can just buy your own thread lock.

And as already stated, you can drill out the old one, tap in new threads and use your own screw. GL

Yeah, when i replaced my rotor, it came with a philips head screw, but the one in the car was an allen head scew. I think that they can be tighten better and less of a chance of falling out.
