Reprogramming after disconnecting battery

Does anyone know how to reprogram the computer after the battery has been disconnected?

I have 1999 beetle and the book says if you disconnect the battery, the computer will loose the instructions to run the car.

It says a scan tool is needed to reprogram it.

I have a autoxray 2000 scanner, but I don't know what to do or if this is even capable of doing it.

I want to know what to do so if I ever have to disconnect the battery, I will be ready for it.

No man it will not wipe out the computer as you say!!!
It will clean out all the codes that have been put on the computer for scanning. The factor settings will come back,if you had the setting adjusted they will be lost!!
Just my 2 cents ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,don't get crazy with this lingo mogo stuff,,think out of the box.

Re: Reprogramming after disconnecting battery

Galaxi is right, you will always maintain factory settings. The car actually programs itself to your driving style so it may feel different at first. As far as the CELs it's a separate issue. Check the PCV. There is a list of fellow VW owners with their own Vag-Com software who can help you with the resets for free if you drive to their location. I am sure you can find someone nearby The list is at http://www20.brinkster.com/beowulf9/tdi/vagcom/
