Just Programmed a new key and remote on my 2003

This was easy...

Purchased a new PK3 blank key off eBay ~$17
Seller was daywlker7 (he was great, just check his rating)

Purchased a used remote (with 1 power door) off eBay ~$26.
Seller was chasnjason (he was great, just check his rating)

Here is how I did it, like me you are doing this at your own risk...

The Key

1. Start the car with a known key that works.
2. Shut off the car remove the key
3. Stick the new key in turn it to the run position
4. Wait till the security light goes out. Might be faster than you can see.
5. remove the key and try starting it with the new key.

The Remote

1) Remove key
2) Pull the BCM PRGRM fuse (see owners manual).
3) Close all doors and liftgate
4) Insert Key
5) Turn Key to Accessory
6) Seat belt light flashed/chimed 4 times (could be 2,3 or 4)
7) Turn key off then back to Accessory within 1 sec
8) Opene and Close a door (van chimed on open and again on close)
9) Never got another chime
10) Pressed lock & Unlock simultaneously on remote #1 until chime (maybe 5 seconds)
11) Pressed lock & Unlock simultaneously on remote #2 until chime (maybe 5 seconds)
12) Removed key.
13) Replaced fuse
14) Tried remotes
15) Grinned from ear to ear because they worked.

Good Luck,

I'm going to try this on my 2001 Alero, but am not very optimistic that it will work. Everything I have read says the GM Tech I or Tech II scan tool must be used to access the BGM and put it in programming mode. But, I'll still take the risk and try this. Where did you come upon these instructions? In the Chevy Forum, Nonspecific, is where there are literally hundreds of questions on programming GM remotes and the guys that answer seem to have the factory books on how to do them. They said the Aleros had to go to the dealer.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Just Programmed a new key and remote on my 2003

For programming the remote I got the basic instructions from this website chevy/non-specific. The directions for where very similiar to what I did but not exact. It took a little playing to get it to work right.

My only concern was that I would screw it up and turn on the anti-theft and not be able to turn it off. THat would leave me with a vehicle that I can't start. I would then have to have it towed to the dealer.

A guy named ShortBus@AF seams to really have a good handle on this, enquire to him for the Alero Specific instructions.
