Buying a car with Rust?

Um found a dealer with a stick 240 for a good price, catch is theres abit of rust on the tail light area, the moon roof, and some on the outer part of the engine bay. Not by the firewall though more liek near the front bumper etc. No rust on the underbody and engine and tranmission clean and interior is clean. Should I buy this? or is rust a real bitch to get rid of.

Re: Buying a car with Rust?

240sx se: rust under spoiler. check the exhaust piping, around the moonroof, under the spare tire, any exposed metal quickly becomes rust. if you got rust, make sure it hasn't eaten a hole yet. sand the rust off, then repaint that area. rust is like a disease, once it appears in one area it'll spread.

show pics if you can.

i would watch out for the chassis..... most important part to look out for rust...... other than that all other things are minor.

Rust is litereally cancer for a car. In small areas it won't kill you, but it spreads and wreaks havoc throught the whole machine. Brian sadly had an bad buying experience with rust. I believe he said that the underbody was infected and it made the whole car junk. When it gets bad, a professional body shop will weld out the rust and weld in a new piece of metal and try to make it look as good as possible. That's pretty much the only way if it's that bad. Good luck...
