DSMLink Question

Hello all,

In my quest for getting my car right the first time this question came up. I was thinking about get a AFC-II and a AVCR. But then I got to looking at DSMlink, If I had a manual boost controller and a DSMlink would it effectivly replace the AFC-II and AVCR? Because it appears that the DSMlink offers more flexibility.

yes. you could still use the avcr with dsmlink. but a mbc would do just fine. avcr's are nice, all the eletronic boost controlers are nice. your downfall to a mbc over the avcr is, you wont be able to controle rpm boost, or gear boost for best traction with fwd. if you got the $ still go with the avcr. dsmlink wipes afc for functioanlity and versitility becasue of its dataloging, nitrus controle, antilag. if i reamber right afc2 is about 350-400, and alot of time to install correctly, save the hastle and spend the extra $199 for dsmlink. the only downfall is the extra electronics you need. palms are cheep, or you can get a crappy ass old laptop on ebay that will work perfect with it for dirt cheap. my 2 pennies

Cool, Thanks for your reply. I am not worried about the computer aspect of it. God knows I have that covered because I build/repair laptops as a 3rd biz. A question to follow up my first one and I believe I am clear on this subject. Once I get the car tuned with the DSMlink assuming that's the way I go, Do I have to have the laptop with me at all times when driving? or does it just load up the ECU where I can unplug it when I am done tuning the car?

data log with the dsmlink software on your laptop, or palm, and uploade to the ecu, then unplug and drive, the only time you need to have it running in your car is when your data loging, see what the configurataions are doing to your engien.

Just an additional note on the subject of boost control by speed or gear, for FWDs. You can get or make a simple dual stage MBC, and use DSMlink's nitrous controls to switch it over. All of the nitrous controls are there, like what RPM/speed to engage it, and if it knocks over some limit you set it will cut boost, etc. Very interesting option... DSMlink is ridiculously badass
