Re: Why Is Maaco Paint Job Cheap?

No personal experience here so take it for what it's worth, but I've been told by a bunch of friends that it's because they do a quick job that ends up pealing and cracking within 6 months or so. Again this is info I'm been TOLD about and have no experience on. But to me that cheap of a price compared to pretty much anywhere else that paints sounds a little too sketchy to me.

I think part of it is the fact that they dont do the prep work, like priming it. They just tape it up and paint on the preexisting paint. If you do the prep work yourself, then it would probably be a good deal

Yeah thats right. Jus sand it yourself and have them paint it. Its a good deal then and looks fine.

Yeah, I got a similar quote for a paint job on my CRX ($3500 with body kit install). But Maaco will do it for a few hundred. I haven't heard really any good things about paint jobs from Maaco or Earl Scheib. I saw my friend's Accord and I noticed drips all on the door panels. But there's definitely a reason why paint jobs are so expensive...if anything - workmanship and quality of paint.

well worth it, the paint looks just as good today as it did a year ago fresh outta the shop. except the chip my basterd little brother put in it.

Re: Why Is Maaco Paint Job Cheap?

I'm not really sketchy of Maaco...I mean they're nationwide so its not like they're a small local business that is going to rip you off. But u get what you pay for...and if u do the prep work yourself and just have them spray the paint its not bad then.

Disclaimer...I have no personal experience with Maaco so if I'm wrong please say so, this is just what ive heard.

LIke everyone else said, no prep work other than scuffing and overall cheep paint and workmanship/quality. You get what you pay for.

Re: Re: Why Is Maaco Paint Job Cheap?

Your best off doing what they said, do all prep work(sanding, filling, priming, taping, etc.) They use LOW QUALITY paint which never looks good.

Re: Why Is Maaco Paint Job Cheap?

I live in maryland. I use Rayflex paint, cheap paint but its actually not bad at all. If 100 is a Concours level job, I think Rayflex will give you an 85 or 90. Most of the work in a paint job is still preparation. No paint will cover poor prep.

Re: Why Is Maaco Paint Job Cheap?

My Civic was painted by Maaco when I bought it... Its peeling a bit, mostly cuz it was hit by hail, and got a few spots I noticed it wasnt perfect, for instance the LX was taped over and just painted over the tape, a bit of overspray from where they didnt tape it just right, but for the price the previous owner paid ($500 I think) it was decent... The guy said he did the whole prep work, so yea, thats the catch, which the prep work, for the most part, is the easy part... By easy I mean most ppl can do it with a lil practice... Painting it where u gotta have skill...
