New 2.2 Ecotec Motor?

Shortly, before I recently purchased my new Cavalier, I had read reviews for 2003 models referring to the "new" 2.2 Ecotec motor. Since then, I have noticed in other articles that the Cavalier had a 2.2L 4 cylinder before the 2003 model.

Therefore, I am wondering is the 2.2L motor in the 2003 Cavalier was a new motor or a newer edition of the 2.2 L motor in the earlier model years?

Re: New 2.2 Ecotec Motor?

There is the 2.2 2200, and the 2.2 ecotec (L61)

dont know the specs on the 2200, other then its a ohv 4 and i think it makes 120hp at the most.

and the ecotec is a DOHC motor that makes 140hp
It is the replacement of the 2.4l twin cam in the old z24's

I can tell you that they are under ratedwith most putting around 130-135 whp stock i would say around 155 is closer plus or minus 3hp

I am telling you that it is under rated because i have friends in the tech center and they say it is under rated. also i had a 2002 sedan ls trim with a 2.4 and it seems to have more top end. it just pulls harder to me this is the forth cav that i have owned and it is the best yet smooth and powerful and needs a higher redline.

I've seen a Viper engine in an Integra... with enough money anything is possible. I dont know if you realize how costly engine swaps are. If you want speed bad enough that you want to swap your Cavy, I would sell it and get a car with a little more potential.
