Fiberglass VS. Urethane

I am very interested in buying a body kit for my car. I was wondering which material is better, fiberglass or urethane? Also, i was wondering if anyone had any idea how much it would cost for installation and paint. Thanks alot...

Re: Fiberglass VS. Urethane

for the most part, fiberglass is lighter than urethane, but breaks much easier. one solid scrape or drag and the FG will crack out. where as the urethane will just scrape away, but it to can crack.

as far as cost goes it depends on what all you want painted. do you want the kit painted to match your current paint job, do you want a new paint job, what kind of paint. there are a few more details you need to disclose before someone will be able to answer your question accurately.

If you travel the highways a lot live near gravel.. or occasionally forget how low your car is when you pull in and out of a parking lot/Space.. .Stay away from Fiberglass..

I agree, but if you have any body kit you should learn to park and avoid big bumps in the road. I perfer working with poly, just because you get a better fit 95% of the time, and you take out the whole human aspect of manufacturing it. fiberglass molds get used often, don't compensate for wear, some under paid guy SPRAYS in the resin, drops on 7 layers of sheet (if your lucky) and then is supposed to squeege out all the bubbles (don't see this happening). Poly is usually manufactured with a metal , plastic injection mold, (just about every part comes out the exact same as the last). That being said, as far as I know, the only kit that runs around the same price whether fiber or poly is the blitz, If thats your style koo...I personally am tired of that one. I went to Bomex for mine and because I promised to put their decal on my ride they charged me for a fiberglass insted of the outrageous price for poly. No matter what you do... STAY CLEAR OF THE DREADED EBAY BODY KITS.
now as far as price goes I'll tell you this, if you have any body work exp
mount it yourself! if its a poly kit you will find this very easy. paint wise It all depends on the condition of your paint now and what you want, where you live. always get other estimates. use a reputable shop that will at least warranty the paint. most places wont warranty much more than that on custom work. just do your homework and you should be fine
good luck

hey slowgsowner, can you post some pics of your bomex kit. i've always been interested in that kit just could never find any decent pics of it. in some instances it looked cool while some other pics i saw it just looked WAAYYY chessy. i just wanna see some real life pic of it from different angles. maybe one day when my current strada F1 kit wears out i know what to shop for. thanks

let me find you a link,(i don't have a way to get mine on here yet) yeah, they have one kit that looks close to a drift kit (not impressed) and one that looks sort of like the front end of the F&F 1 Supra (thats the one I got) VERY AGRESSIVE looking so if that ain't your style......as far as waaavvyyy, might be one of those cheap ebay copies you looked at, (they look like someone crapped in a mold and dried it) here you go

front, www.bomexaero.com/images1/ias2002/P4050042.jpg

heres what the rear bumper looks like, I just modded mine

no, just different styles is all. check out www.bomexero.com
and go to the english site link. youll be able to see all their kits on different cars. I'm happy with mine, but I just got the front bumper and side skirts from them, (the back wasn't quite my style) you also might want to check out the motegi eclipse on their website. (very, very nice) the cool thing about it is I was able to put in a huge intercooler, and the brake cooling openings are fuctional (with convulated tubing)
I thought about meshing it all in but I don't think that kit would look good with it (haven't seen it done)
