Amp chosing advice???

I know you guys are probably tired of being asked this, but ok...
I want to get a good SQ amp that pushes 300W RMS and has a range knob from 20-400Hz... not 20-200Hz like some... it will be powering one twelve, what do you guys suggest???

Re: Amp chosing advice???

Umm... what is the impedence... you wont be going past 200 on any sub. I am almost certain of that. I would suggest a nine.2 off the top of my head or a mcintosh if you have that kinda money.

Your sub shouldn't be playing above 100hz anyway

Re: Amp chosing advice???

Ok, well, sr20... I told you about my old system, well, I had a Jensen 300W and it blew out, so I've borrowed a Sony Xplod. The Jensen was set @ 400Hz while the Sony only goes up to 200Hz, and Believe me it sounded way better w/ the Jensen, don't get me wrong, the Sony hits harder (it's about 400W) but sounds even crappier. Since Jensen and Xplod are both utter crap, the only variable in this equation that made the first amp sound better was the higher setting... did I expalin it right

Re: Amp chosing advice???

dude, get a midbass driver. you will easily blow out your subwoofer trying to run it too high. The sub is not meant to handle that frequency. You need to set it at 120 at the highest and 80 is the norm.

Re: Amp chosing advice???

If you get a dedicated midbass, which is apparently what you were trying to use your jensen for, it will sound better, but your jensen probably died because of its missuse.

wow, setting the crossover freq higher will blow the sub .... I guess you learn something everyday

as for why one amp seems to hit harder than another, there could be at least a dozen different reasons.

well unless u are happy with your sub playing all your midbass, then get good components, and set the sub's lpf to under 100hz, i duno many people that listen to their subs over 200hz, i mean any higher then its midbass, and your speakers should cover that, your subwoofer is made for LOW FREQUENCIES, if u have it turn that high, u might as well throw away your speakers and use your subwoofer for everything in your car, give it atleast 15khz yea?

Since they generally distort at the higher frequencies and draw the amp into clipping easier by spreading out the power more, wouldn't that help in blowing the speaker?
