Angry belt replacement.....HELP!!

I have a 93 Cutlas Ciera S...belt popped off, and I replaced it, but everytime I start the engine, the belt is slipping off of where it rests on the water pump. All of the pulleys seem to be moving, and the tension is really tight, no slack. The car is starting, so the crank is moving as well, but it keeps slipping, smoking, and then snapping...HELP PLEASE!!

Was this condition present before you changed the belt, i.e. did the former belt slip off and that is why you replaced it?

Either you have a pully that is not aligned or you are not positioning the belt in the correct manner around one of the pulleys. My first suggestion is that you make sure you have the belt located in all the correct grooves around each pulley, be particularly careful to make sure you have the belt secured on the crank pulley correclty. It is the hardest to see. If you had the condition before changing belts then look for a mis-aligned pulley either from becoming bent or bearing/shaft wear on that particular accessory.

Does this make sense?

Re: belt replacement.....HELP!!

Check the serpentine belt tensioner. Either the Belt Tensioner bolt is loose or the Belt Tensioner itself needs to be replaced.
