exhaust parts
so the shop wanted 750 for my exhaust. it turns out that i needed the front pipe, mid pipe, front muffler, rear pipe, and rear muffler. i think thats all the right names, but basically everything from the headers back not including the headers or cat. im thinking of buying seperate pieces for my new exhaust since i dont have 750 bucks. i found a shop thatl custom make a cat-back for a hundred bucks, i just have to buy a muffler. i havent found out tho if they will make me the rest of the piping. and i havent found a place that'll sell me a mid muffler. im hoping to use the original cat, by just cutting it out, and welding new piping to it. if not, that should be fine cuz i found a cat for 80 bucks or so. if anyone knows where i can get a "mid muffler" please let me know, or am i safe to run my car without one??
also, if im missing anything or have something totally wrong, let me know, cuz i dont know that much about exhaust systems and i cant seem to find sites to research. all i find are sites to sell me a new system. also, if anyone has alternative ideas for my dilema, let me know. if i cant find a way to fix this problem, im selling the car, and getting a bike. when its raining, i drive the pos corolla that my parents have. (no not a "bike" bike, a real bike, as in "honda 750" bike.)

Re: exhaust parts
For the cat, you can just punch the stuff out inside. For your exhaust system, just have that shop make a catback and buy a muffler from them. My friend did the same thing on his 01 grand am and it sound really good.

Re: exhaust parts
so with a empty cat, could i still pass emissions, or would i have to go buy a new one and switch them out every time i take it in?? and what should i do about the rest of the piping in front of the cat, just leave it??

A cat is a big part of the emissions, you will fail if you don't have one, or if you gut it. That's why straight pipes that eliminate the cat are only legal off-road...not that it stops anyone from using them lol.

Re: exhaust parts
You could buy a header for the front, but other than that I would leave it alone.
