Overheating corrected now the guage/light won't read normal

95 Supreme 3.1 AT, 135K miles. Lower raditor hose busted and car overheated, sending temperature guage to the top of the scale and the "hot" idiot light on. Fixed problem, car seems to be running great (even changed the oil), BUT temperature guage still stays pegged at the top of the scale AND the idiot light still stays on as soon as the engine is cranked, even after the engine has sat overnight.

I pulled a few fuses and disconnected the battery for a few minutes hoping this would reset the guages. No luck, problem still there. Anybody got any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks.

Bob

take it to a dealership to have it reset (the computer)... and i'd highly advise you to get the car checked out cause something like that can really reak havoc on these 3100's ... cracked heads ... etc.

Thanks. I did replace the temperature sending unit and that did NOT correct the problem the gauge still reads hot. Do I have to take it to a dealer to re-set it? Dealers around here charge an arm and two legs for anything...........

I am also afraid you may be correct about this having harmed the engine. I now am losing antifreeze and I can't find a leak. Oh well. I might try some stop leak to see if that will work but I doubt that it will. Looks like it may be time for a replacement car.

Go to Autozone and they can read a code for you FREE and probably reset the code for you as well.
