|
what's the bester Rod Stroke ?
if I put a B17 crank with b16 Rods I get a rod stroke of 1.65, now the B16 has a R/S of 1.74... I thought the closer to 1.70 was the best... is this true ?

yes. B16's rod ratio is almost perfect. If you want more power from a b16 and still be able to rev it to 10,000 rpm, then what you need to do is sleeve it and bore it to 84mm. that will give you a 1.8L B16. you could also bore it to 86mm and have a 1.9L B16, but you'd have to modifiy the head combustion chamber to match the larger bore.

according to http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c...c/compcalc.php just boring the b16 to 84mm gives it a displacment of 1.7L & 86mm gives 1.8L
The b17 crank has more stroke compaired to the b16 81.4mm vs 77mm stroke just swaping the crank in a stock B16 bumps up the CR to almost 14:1

think about this... the pistons in a b16 are already very close to the valves. imagine making them over 4mm longer... in theory, 14:1 compression, in real life, piston almost 4mm out of the hole and piston slamming the head. If you stroke it, you need shorter rods.

it's actualy be 5.8 mm closer
b17 crank has 1.8mm shorter rod

you could always stroke/bore a motor to what ever specs you want, if you run longer rods you need a shorter piston. and so on.
a b16 punched out to a 84mm will only give you a 1715cc motor. the formula is bore x bore x stroke x .0007854 x number of cylinders = cc's. anything past the decimal point is a remainder. 81mm stoke bore 77.4mm stroke ex: 81x81x77.4x.0007854x4=1595.3716 1595 cc's or a stock b16 also most b seriers motors have 81mm pistons. b16a/b, b17, b18a/b/c. stroke is what makes them greater in displacement.
