viper remote start and alarms

I have a 99 gmc suburban that has a viper alarm and remote start on it when I bought it. Lately it's been acting up and when I turn the key off it restarts and I have to put it in gear and then in park again and turn it off. Sometimes it kills all the power and the radio goes back to 1:00, and I can't start it for a few minutes. It doesn't do this all the time. I'm not even sure of what model it is. Any help would be appreciated.

That is a very odd problem. I have never heard of that happening before. I install Viper (DEI) for a living and this is a first for me. You have to press the brake to put it in gear. When the brake is pressed in remote start mode it should kill the vehicle. That is problem 1 but wont fix the starting problem. If you can get me a model # maybe I can figure it out. It should be on the brain under the drivers side dash. I would have to say its time for a new system but if you can get me that I might be able to figure something out. It wont be easy to get to in your suburban.

Re: viper remote start and alarms

I am also a DEI dealer and have heard something simular to this. It ended up being the battery cables being bad in the vehicle. What was happening was there was a mistake on the battery posts on the cables. They were too long. So, GM had the bright idea to just use lead washers as spacers. Well, over time these would cause the posts to break the inside of the battery terminals to where they would slowly leak. The result would be screwy voltage spikes, making the vehicle to do all kinds of screwy things. The fix was to replace the battery cables and get a new battery.
