Whistling noise

I've got a whistling noise coming from what i think is the alternator. the more the engine rev's the louder the whistling noise gets. i thought i was a bad ground so i grounded it at the battery. that seemed to help for a little while but its back again. Any ideas?

you could just be getting some belt squel, which isnt uncommon; it will especially be noticable if the belt gets wet; kind of a sneaker-on-a-gym floor type thing. the only way to fix this (the right way) is to replace the belt. If its not the belt, then it could be any one of your pulleys starting to go. take a stethescope and move from one pulley to the enxt while the engine is running to isolate the noise.

sorry i shold have been more specific. the noise only happens when i turn my radio on. and only since i put my amp in.

you have got the classic alternator whine. Most likely because you ran the RCA wires too close to a noisy area.

yeah - try running your RCA's / speaker wires on the opposite side of the vehicle from your amp power wire, or at least isolating the RCA's from other power sources as much as possible... if you don't have much choice, maybe "low noise" RCA's may help (maybe the other guys have some input here) - i just never saw much difference... and the last thing I can think of is a noise filter ($20 - $30)...

Mayb u have a long lost turbo charger that you forgot about in your engine

I wish i had a long lost turbo aswell. That whisteling noise is good. besides that ive got no ideas.

i wish it was a turbo charger. i've ran my power and ground wires on the drivers side and the rca's on the passenger side. whats a noise filter? what do you mean by a noisy area?

You can buy inline noise filters, put them in-between your RCA plugs and your AMP (they have RCA plugs on them so they fit right inline). Stopped mine instantly when I had my Bronco.

Unfortunately, if they are cheap - it can act like a high pass crossover, cutting your bass levels
