3800 S/C, Trans Problems!

This morning on my way to work; it seemed like my car wouldn't go into first gear.

When I first started driving, the rpms were at about 2K/2,500, but the boost gage would go all the way up to 7 or so. It was really sluggish, and this is not how it drove even yesterday. I can use first gear if I put the gear shift in 1, but in either D or OD, its like it doesnt shift down. I've tried switching between regular and perf. shift, but nothing helps. Once im goin 35 or so, everything seems fine. Electrical problem? or am i looking at a new trans/rebuild....?

Hi,
Have you tried changing the filter?

Mine was doing that, fixed it and worked like a charm. Also check the EGR valve and the metal hoses that come off of it and check for leaks.

Hope this helps.

Re: 3800 S/C, Trans Problems!

my gp is only a 95 but it has a second gear start switch, it really doesnt seem to work very well for whatever it's meant for, but this might be your problem, i had mine on for a while and i thought i wrecked the trans too...turns out i hopped in and hit it with my knee or something, anyways its acceleration was like gone and it seemed mentally retarded...then i figured it out, fine once i flicked the switch back to normal
