1998 Cavalier Fuel Filter Change

How do you release the quick connect on the fuel filter for removal? I already snapped off one of the plastic tabs.
Thanks!

ha, happened to me to. you can use a very small flathead screwdriver and squeeze it inside where the clip used to be. i ended up having to pretty much pry a little piece out at a time until it could come out. it don't matter what shape the end of the filter is or the plastic insert because that all comes on a new filter. just don't bend the fitting it all fits inside of or you'll need a new line

I had the same problem when i tried doing mine on a 99. I was trying to do it backwards. IN the end all you have to do is just pull the black plastic connector back towards the filter and the line away. I found that out after i broke all the tabs off and took it to pepboys and let them deal with it.

I also had the same problem with the quick release and had to use a pick set to clear out all of the remaining pieces of the black ring. The green connector on the male end of the new fuel filter replaces the need for the original black ring. This takes about 45 minutes.
