i want to put a cold air intake into my vr-4, but i hear that they let more particles into the engine, and will decrease its life. but i also hear, taht with the addition of the air bypass valve, it will be a better filter than the stock one? any advice?

just put on an open element filter, first off, forced air hasnt proven much for our cars, and secondly, sucking in colder air will only have better affects on the non-turbos because the turbos air temp will be affected by the intercooler, not by the intake air, now you could do some type of intercooler upgrade (dsm upgrade for $400) or you could possibly get an intercooler sprayer kit.
