Spammer Sent To Prison For 7 Years
POSTED: 9:54 am EDT May 28, 2004 UPDATED: 12:26 pm EDT May 28, 2004 A man who sent 850 million junk e-mails has been sentenced to seven years in prison. Howard Carmack was convicted in March of forgery, identity theft and falsifying business records. He'll have to serve at least 3½ years of his term. Carmack got the bad news Thursday in Buffalo -- and not by e-mail. Internet service provider Earthlink says Carmack ran 343 illegal e-mail accounts under false names for about a year. He sent unsolicited e-mail ads for get-rich-quick schemes and sexual enhancers. The accounts were set up with stolen identities. Carmack told the judge the case was overblown because there were no victims. But Carmack was convicted of defrauding eight men, plus Earthlink. Last May, Earthlink won a $16 million civil judgment against him. source - http://www.newsnet5.com/technology/3356876/detail.html |

I heard about that yesterday on the radio... all I could say was, BRAVO! Now, maybe those idiots who think "3+ inches of bigness" and "Free trial Ci@lis" and "Johnson (NOT my name), do you like *blahblahblah*?" will think twice before going crazy with their spam BS. Now, if the internet police would only start cracking down on the friggin scum who lodge spyware into my computer, to such a degree that I have to run Ad-Aware every day. Although Ad-Aware does NOT have the capability of getting rid of this one really bad program called "VX2:BetterInternet" ---WATCH OUT FOR THIS ONE--- very bad stuff indeed, digs in very deep, and I don't relish having to do RegEdit work at all.
Spam, Spyware, Viruses -- the internet really is a seedy place. It's like that episode of Chappelle's Show, where he set up a skit illustrating what it would be like if the internet were a real, brick and mortar place (sort of like a mall.) Hehe -- you wouldn't want to go within a mile of the thing.

Re: more please.
i dunno about that; former court rulings are brought up all the time in current court hearings to help decide a ruling......doubtful yes, but we can still hope!!!
