i need used car opinions

Hello all! I am buying a used car and need some opinions. First of all my price range is $6000-$10,000Cdn ($4400-$7400US). I would like to buy GM because i can get cheap parts. I dont really like Civics and such, but nothing is out of the question. Im after a midsized sedan or coupe, late 90's and reliable, but performance is also a concern! Need a college car for 4 years, but got some cash to spend.

Please use pros and cons.

Examples of what ive looked at thus far:

1995+ Grand AM/Grand Prix
1995+ Monte Carlo
1995+ Avenger
1995+ Neons
1995+ Buick Regals

Please help!

Re: i need used car opinions

a good car the is sold by gm but practically a mitsubishi is the dodge stealth. probably the best gm car for your price range, it has style and speed in one package but i really haven't heard much about how reliable they are.

Re: i need used car opinions

I'd try and find a late 90's Buick Regal GS. They took GM's 3800 Series II V6 and supercharged it for 240 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. If not that, try a Grand Prix or Monte Carlo.

the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and Buick Regal GS have been supercharged since 1997. They are both front-wheel-drive, four-door sedans making 240 horsepower and 280 torque, and you can get older models of them for $6-7K. They seem to be your best bet, since the Monte Carlo wasn't supercharged until 2004.

The GTP came in 2 door varients too.

The Dodge Stealth is not a GM, those cars tend to have many issues with higher mileage. I would avoid them. Also, try to avoid GM cars with the 3100 V^, as these were prone to head gasket failure and are generally not as good as the 3800 (3.8 V6, supercharged or non). The 3800 is a great motor.
