I30 & Maxima 5 sp. the same?

Hi all -

97 I30t with a 5 speed (that's why I bought it!). Fast approaching 200,000. Trans. is noisy (mainshaft whine) & now the output bearings/seals are starting to go. Due for a clutch as well (still on original!!!)

Great car & all else is good - but I can't find an affordable transmission for it. $1500 for a used (140,000 mi.) tranny is nuts - I'm thinking closer to $500 - but maybe I'm dreaming.

I'm wondering if a Maxima trans. will fit. Mine is locking (V code) - but could live without it - although I'm in the hills of Vermont & the car is great in the snow.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?
