Re: 350 2 main bolt
umm, i dont really know what you mean by is it posible to. anything is posible. if you are asking if it could come stock with one then yes. and if your asking if it would work to build a 2 bolt main 350 and put it in a nova then yes, but you can only put so much torque to something before it becomes to much. a 2 bolt main block can not handle as much as a 4 bolt but there is nothing wrong with them. im making around 430ft.lbs. of torgue in my 2 bolt main 350. usualy about 400-450 is about all that is recomended though. but there are exceptions to every fule.

Re: 350 2 main bolt
if its 2 bolt,,, junk it,,, it limits your posibilities,,, you want an engine that you can beat all to hell... get a 4-bolt w/ forged internals and you'll be able to do anything

You really have to be either running on a track or have the engine in a truck hauling a huge trailer to stress a well-built 2 bolt block to failure. On the street, the great majority of people are not going to rev the engine long enough, under high loads to blow it up. Sure, its possible to do, but be realistic about your useage before junking the block. |

I got a 4 bolt for my build up but I have little bad things to say about 2 bolts. My friend had one in his S10 and I have never seen ANY engine hold up to what that thing did. We didn't know it was a 2 bolt untill we ripped it apart and we were all floored. Ever since, I've had a whole new respect for those things.

Re: 350 2 main bolt
2-bolt blocks are the same as 4-bolts, for the most part, with only two holes drilled instead of 4. The fact is, there are more of the early design (2-pc rear main) with 4-bolt than 2. I hear all the time, how "I gotta get a 4-bolt main 350, then I'll have something!" I guess some folks believe main bearings have something to do with power production. They do, however, make better performance blocks, by keeping things more rigid.
As for whether or not a 2-bolt block can take it? Well, bear in mind, zero of the small journal small blocks were 4-bolt, and they supplies one version that was RATED at 375 HP ('64/'65 Corvette, fuel injected). They put a warranty on it, and 327 are known for being tough. I think the block will be fine up to the 450 horse line, anyway. |

Re: 350 2 main bolt
The 5.0's had 2 bolt blocks. Look at how many of those are running blowers with gobs of power. 2 bolt blocks are fine as long as you don't pump too much out of it, also make sure to have your internals balanced, vibration kills internals.

Re: 350 2 main bolt
Bulldog, it must be pointed out here, a small block Ford is a completely different animal than the Chevy. Even the Clevelands had 2-bolt blocks save for a few of the "Boss" and 4-bbl. versions. The Ford loads the crank differently and therefore stresses the block in a different manner. The main bearings are also arranged differently (thrust on no. 3 instead of 5).

Hey man, what are you planning on doing with this engine? I can't believe nobody has asked yet! True, a 2 bolt with no cracks and balanced internals should have no problem harnessing 400-450hp/tq. I doubt, however, that's what you're shooting for. If you ARE looking to hop up a motor that spins above 6G's regularly and cost is no object, then buy the 2 bolt and have it tapped for splayed main caps - THOSE 4 bolt caps will hold whatever you want it to.
