installing body kit

i am new to this board and have been searching around for the answer to my question all around but cant quite find what im looking for. im trying to find out how to put on my body kit. ive heard "its easy just put it on there" and "it doesnt take any work to put it on." but i am having some trouble putting mine own. im trying to put on a front and rear bumper. ive taken them off and tried to fit the new bumpers on there but each is wider than rest of the body. also i dont know how to fit the bumper in the middle, there is no place for me to connect it to. what i am looking for a step by step guide to putting on my bumpers. my car is a 1990 integra RS. thank you in advance for your help.

Re: installing body kit

you should have gotten some direntions in the cargo box, anyway aftermarket kits usually are made to fit in the factory mounting position.

If you look at your stock bumpers you should be able to figure out how to put them on, good luck.

You did not by chance take off you front & rear bumper reinforcements? Maybe they fit unto them?

Re: installing body kit

ok, i found out how to get the bumpers on to the car. i took off the whole bumper but i should have taken off just the plastic stock bumper. but anyway i dont know how to line up the holes to drill. i was thinking of making a templete out of cardboard but is there a simpler way?

Thumbs up

No dont use cardboard that'll be useless, just put the front bumper on and if it's a perfect fitment drill through till you go through the stock holes, when you take the grill and headlights off you should see all the holes for it and just second guess it. As long as you line it up you should be fine...

Re: installing body kit

its a good job to have a bud or two over to help out, cuz holding it in place while drilling holes is almost impossible

ok, im glad to say that ive got the front and rear bumpers on and they look pretty good. but i have once again run into another problem. the rear bumper isnt long enough and the leading edge doesnt go flush with the wheel well. what i was thinking was cut the side and fabricate a piece of fiberglass in there to extend it to the wheel well. how does this sound and thanks again for the help.

Yeah well how much of a difference is it?? If it isnt noticeable than dont worry about it cuz you dont wanna mess it up, but if it's a huge difference like a couple inches than i'd say mold it. Use fiberglass mat and then use body filler to mold the bumpers to the car so you dont see any imperfections. if your not knowledgeable about body filler though I would say find someone whos good with it so you dont screw up your ride.

Re: installing body kit

yeah its a bout a 2 inch difference which sucks cause its a quality kit. i took it out for a drive today and ran into another problem thats common with lowere fronts. how do you deal with going up or down a step hill or a speed bump, i scraped the underside of the front while pulling out down hill. i was going slow so i wouldnt hit it but did anyways and by pulling out slowly i also pulled out in front of a jeep. o the fun.

lol, no. I'm lowered 2.5" with a kit and never scrape.

You just need to learn where you can drive and how to drive. Try going at things at an angle instead of head on. You might still scrape a little but not nearly as bad as going head on. How much did you pay for your body kit? No offense but I think you got a cheap one by the way the fitment has been sounding. Nothing wrong with that, but it's just a good lesson that you get what you pay for.

Re: installing body kit

i got it off ebay so it was cheap for a kit, about 400 but its 3oz handlaid fiberglass so that makes it sound likes its a quality kit. i just think the person making it just screwed up.

The thing I would do is get adjustable coilovers and have them at a nice ride height wfor daily driving. Don't have it too low when you have a kit on your car cuz your gonna ruin it. If you got th kit for $400 i'm sorry thats not good and 7 oz. is the highest quality you can get. Besides for the fitment was anything else wrong with it like cracks, warping, tears, creases??
