check engine light
I have a 97 ranger that had the check engine light come on. I went to auto zone and they said it was a code p01443 which I know could be the gas cap and I checked the seal on that and it looks good. Does anyone know what else it could be and if I may be able to fix it on my own? I am in a bind right now with cash and don't know a lot about cars.

It's a good chance that it's a vacuum leak somewhere. I just had the same code & it was the hose going in/out of the carbon canister (below battery). Does the truck run any different? You can start the truck & sray carb cleaner on vaccum hoses & if idle changes, that's where your leak is. Good Luck!

Re: check engine light
I also have a '97 and have the following three codes:
P1443 (Evaporative Emission Control Systems Control Valve) P0171 (Too Lean Bank 1) P0174 (Too Lean Bank 2) Is this likely to be vacuum leaks as well? Thanks. |

Vacuum leak? Code Changes
I traced the vacuum line from the fuel tank to the vapor cannister. No apparent leaks - I removed the rubber hose section and checked it for leaks and found none. After replacing it, two of the codes previously reported are now gone:
P0171 P0174 so I conclude that the hose must have been loose at the fittings. Previously I had replaced the gas cap with no change to the code readings. The P1443 code remains on. Suggestions for the P1443 code? Thanks. |

Re: check engine light
I Had The Same Problem, So I Replaced The Sensors, That Didn't Fix The Problem. The Engine Was Burning Rich, "maybe A Sign That The Cat. Converter Is Pluged Up", So I Replaced The Cat. Converter And The Check Engine Light Doesn't Turn On Anymore.

Re: check engine light
1443 is purge flow solenoid.there is also a flow sensor inline with it.replace em both.l71,174 could be the vacuum lin that runs into the air cleaner tube being off.

Re: check engine light
Having trouble locating the replacement purge flow solenoid and sensor through the usual internet parts outlets. Anyone know where I can order these?
