93 metro convertible

Hi I am new here. I just bought a 93 metro convertible that is in really nice condition. I love it, the gas mileage is fantastic and it really runs great!! The only thing is the inside latch on the convertable top appears loose and I can't tighten it. While driving it with the windows down, it poped open on the highway. I wondered if anyone on here had a convertible top inside latch they didn't need, or if there was anyway I could fix mine.

The latch itself is probably ok. Check and make sure the black plastic latches are tight. They are the 2 pieces the top latches down to. They have a tendancy to vibrate loose. You have to take off the trim that the dome light is on to tighten them. Also, look carefully at the front of the convertible top, on the outside. Make sure you don't see any bent bars sticking up under the convertible top.

Re: 93 metro convertible

This is an easy fix. I fixed this problem myself and found when I replaced my top, but you can do it without having to replace the top.

The handle you see when you close the top has a phillips head bolt that needs to be tightened. The problem is that when you go to tighten it down, the nut above/behind it is spinning around. So...what you need to do is get a tool up and behind the top piece to hold the nut from spinning while you tighten.

There not much clearance to work a tool to hold that nut when you have the top closed and latched. Way to get more access is to open up the top and give the top some slack, so you can get a pair of pliers or wrench behind to hold that nut from spinning while you turn the bolt.

Hope this helps.
