Ok based on the title of this thread IMPORT and cheap.

That rules out a mustang, u bias mustang dork(J/King i have no car)

Cheap imports based on doing alil thing called search.

Eclipse GST/GSX <-cheap, takes great to mods, can be 11 sec car.
Any Honda/Acura <- Everyone and their mother has one so HUGE aftermarket= cheap parts.
MKIII Supra (before 93) <- its a SUPRA!!! just not twin turbo unless its jspec
Golf GTI <- can be found at average prices and they are quick lil cars.
240sx <- Have become very common so they price for parts isnt to high
z31 300zx <-get the turbo version and it will be a decently quick car
rx7 sc <- as long as you know how to take care of a car

i dont know that much about cars so thats just a list that i have come up with from researching the forums for a couple of months.

Re: good first import starter?? cheap please

ferrari is a nice import. So are benzes. What about a porshe? oh yeah cheap. . .
go with a POS civic EX and rice it out then annoy every driver at the light by reving the engine to show everyone how powerful it is!!!! And then you can go drive around with all the highschool kids who think that car is god and try to intimidate people!! If you have/had the cars you say you do, then you got money, dont buy a cheap car like a civic and rice it out, buy something like a mustang salen! Or a MonteCarlo SS Supercharged! Theirs already enough rice on the road, it feels like Tokyo here.

If you're dead set on an import I would at least start with finding one that is RWD and go from there no matter your preference for drag racing/road racing. Z's, Supra's, RX-7's... I think a Miata is RWD. Skyline of course but who can get their hands on those?

Maybe it's a myth but I always thought that making an import powerful was a bit on the expensive side. Cheap power are the 5.0 Fox body Mustangs... out of the box you have cubic inches and torque. But all I can suggest are the imports listed above. They look good and are RWD, but most likely are not cheap.

Why the emphasis on going cheap anyway? You get what you pay for.

Re: good first import starter?? cheap please

Go buy a Integra GS-R. They are cheap and affordable. They also respond well to mods. If you really aren't happy with it's naturally aspirated power just add a turbocharger kit to it (Greddy). I've seen them dyno at over 300 to the wheels with a turbo kit and some bolt ons. That's sick.

actually, to tell you the truth, id go with a nissan 240sx. its rear wheel drive, the stock engine is sweet, not to mention, you can slam in a plethra of other engines (including the beast, rb26dett), they are relatively cheap, hella reliable, and provide the most options now, and down the road.

We did help. We suggested a number of different cars he could go with. Nobody gave a bunch of reasons to why he shouldn't buy an import. We stated the much already known fact of "5.0 mustangs are cheap for the power" but I didn't tell him he should buy one. I reiterated which imports I thought were cool.
