Question 1992 325 ic

I recently bought a 1992 325ic with electric convertible top.
The top does not close all the way and also the latches on both sides don't lock.
I was advised to convert to a manual system. It would save me hassles in the long run. Can anyone advise me on how to do this? In my owners manual it shows both manual and electric versions. It shows a cut out on the side rear for the manual method. Do I need to cut out and opening? What do I need for cables & Latches?? Right now I put the top down by hand then I wedge a piece of wood on each side to keep the back cover down so it wont blow back open.
HELP with any suggestions or just a creative way to keep the back cover down or fix inside latches?

Yes you can order the latches and the cables to convert the lid to the manual top and you do cut a hole in the side panel for the latch.
