Angry stock wheels cracking

We have several 2001/2003 1500 Sliverados w/ the stock steel rims. We have had 7 wheels crack at the welds. Chevrolet does not know of a problem. We just removed one of the wheels and there is a 1/4" crack about 8" long. Has anyone else had this problem? We haven't had an accident yet. They usually start leaking and the tire can not be inflated.

Sounds like the wheel is over loaded, is this wheel on the back or the front.
Front, is the toe in and caster set right
Rear, Are you putting to much weight on the rim to suport the load .
Chech the owners manule to see what the max is for pay load.

My 2 cents,,,,,, changing the pay load of tires to support the load is (back yard stuff) you need to have better wheels to handle the stress of the changing road conditions.
