Hye guys! i need some help and suggestion.
i've done with my Supra & Skyline R-34 V Spec II. And gladly that i finished the finishing coat early today. It's all dried up now. But, i just need some help. 1. Do i use rubbing compound before or after Clear Coat? 2. Do i need to Clear Coat to make it shine? 3. Should i rub the body with rubbing compound and then Clear Coat? 4. Do i paint the window border with matt black or just gloss black or Flat black? and when?? before or after rubbing compound? Paint which i used Supra is TS-17 Metallic Blue Italian Red for my GTr-34 V Spec II Ive inserted some picture for view. Hi there,
Firstly the Supra looks great in that color but to answer ur questions. With a metallic colour always clear coat before u use rubbing compound, reason being the tiny little metal flakes will cut the excellent paint job you have done. So clear coat then rubbing compund. On gloss colors its a preference to whether u clear coat or not. I know Pman never uses clear coat. So if the paint job is done right a rubbing compound will do fine. I suggest using semigloss black, I personally think the other two are either too dull or to glossy. Also I would say do the surrounds before using the compound. Even if u use a low tack masking tape it can still leave residue behind. So try and do all the painting u need before u compound.

I agree with Dublinguy.
DO NOT polish before clear-coating. I've tried it (just for a test tho' on a scrap styrene) and the clear one just don't sticks on surface. It's not necessary to ClearCoat a solid non-metallic paint. Just don't rub throught the paint when rubbing and polishing. For windows, door rubbers and borders use Semi-Gloss black. For your info check the tutorials on AF
