From skinny to BIG???

I'm really skinny right now and it's pretty unconfortable. Girls always tell me "you're so bony and skinny" like it's a good thing, it's insulting, but I don't say a word.
I really wish I did'nt sound like I was whining but I have to say it, I'm tired of bieng a skinny twirp, I need to get bigger. My question is, if I strart working out, will my skinny shape change, or will I just stay skinny but be more 'cut up'. What I'm tryin to say is, can I look bigger regardless of my small bone structure??? Thanks to anyone who helps out.

EDIT: I'm 5'11' and I weigh 135 LBS.

It really depends on how you exercise. I'm not a fitness expert, but in general, if you increase your intake of food and move some higher weights at reps you'll gain body mass.

Some people have a rocket for a metabolism and you might be one of those people. A friend here at work is like that. To help him gain some mass, he's been drinking slim fast between meals. Yeah - I know the name would seem to indicate that he's on a diet, but its used as an increase not as a replacement for any meals. Its working for him so far.

Re: From skinny to BIG???

alright talk to me i have been and still in the situation u are - i have been working out for a long time and i cant gain a pound its so weird - i weigh 130 very thin only 5'9 but the strange thing is i can bench 235 pound with no sweat..i am very very srong but i cant gain any fat..by going to the gym 5 days a week for so long has made me mad cut - it hasnt made me gain any weight tho-its the fast metabolism my doctor says - and there is no way to slow it down except eating twice as much as you want too- its so hard but it works - in college i would eat till i almost threw up and i gained wieght - but take a week of from eating like that and you loose all the weight - creotine - give you water weight so dont bother with that cause if you also stop that for a week all the weight is gone - right now i am taking NO2 and i have had good results i am slowly gaining wieght but i am getting a hell of a lot stonger faster which is pretty cool. ( and when girls say ur skinny like they tell me just tell them its better then being fat like ur ass bitch) haha being skinny and strong give ya confidence as well cause you kno u'll fuck those dudes up if it came down to it -
-also drink protein like its water double the recomended intake which is equal to your body weight

- any questions dude PM me on aim

Re: From skinny to BIG???

i wouldnt worry to much about your skinny-ness

fact is, in 30 years, youll enjoy it. just work on keeping yourself fit and healthy, and sure, the fotball players may intimidate you now, but that 50 inch chest of their will turn into a fifty inch waist sood enough

Don't remind me! The problems I fight are keeping the 52 inch chest and getting the waste back under 38

Re: From skinny to BIG???

Dave's quick way to gain weight!

Tip 1: Have a lot of money
Tip 2: Spend that on beer, pizza, and fatty foods

Once gained weight, go to the gym and start body building, you'll turn that fat into muscle (or burn the fat and make muscle, how ever it works, i failed heath class).

To lose weight, just run/bike/hike/eat right etc. The gym will tone you up.

Re: From skinny to BIG???

What you need to do is graduate high school. I can think of at least 4 people off the top of my head who were in your boat in high school, then they graduate and a year or two later, BAM. Weight piles on.
My husband is in the same exact boat as Yogs, and I'm hoping to get close to wearing my pre-preg clothes again. I gained 60lbs in 9 months, up to 186 (OMFG!!) and have lost 35 of that so far, in abt. 7 weeks. But I still have 25 lbs to go.

Re: From skinny to BIG???

It depends on what you want to do. If it's just gain weight and be a lard arse, eat whatever and do no excercise. If you want muscle mass and definition the inputs are:
-Meals high in protein
-3-4x weekly HEAVY weights session. And I MEAN HEAVY. You will be sore as hell. Live with it if you want the results.
-High weights, highb resistance, low extended reps.

Boingo - can relate. In 12 months I lost 20kg (from 195lbs to 150lbs) or 88kg to 68kg. Would have lost close to 30kg of fat because I've put on a fair amount of muscle in the mean time.

Very impressive.
I haven't resorted to anything as formal as "working out" yet, but have been trying not to eat crap (esp. large quantities) and I've been doing a lot of yard work, digging and raking, etc.

I'm hoping that will take care of it, I never could even gain over 130 before, had a really good metabolism. If I have to though, I will actually work out.

Re: From skinny to BIG???

Here's my outlook.

Go to a gym for three years, so you build some impressive muscle, whether you burn the fat or not (I didn't really- crap diet)

Then STOP going to the gym, waste of money after this point.

Move to Wellington, New Zealand- Live in Kelburn while attending Victoria University (4 papers per term= at least up and down a small incline 3 or 4 times a day) Walk everywhere with abs contracted. Walk to town once a day (Down steep hill with abs contracted)- catch the Cable car back up, if you can't be arsed walking back up the hill (But the Cable car is about $1 a ride, unless you have a $7.50 10-tripper.)

Eat two mid-sized meals a day (Breakfast is for losers) and about 2-3 Twix bars ($.99 at New World Metro) per day. Feel free to have BK or Maccy D's about once or twice a week. Do 2 dozen push ups a night, take the stairs where possible. Heavy drinking should ensue at least once a weekend.

That's managed to morph me into my current state of teh sexy.
