autocross

Well today I went on my first autocross. All I can say is it was the most badass thing I've ever done. I wasn't super fast, but I did decent. The last run I went all out, but I messed up in the beginning since I grinded second gear. I was behind at that point, but the second half I was squealling the tires between the cones like nobodies business. Good fun. There was a first gen GSL-SE there with race tires and exhaust that was kicking ass. He was blowing massive blue smoke though and broke down halfway though his third run.

Re: autocross

sweet man, I'm hoping to go to my first autocross this summer if I ever get my TII swap done. Where was it at? and was it with like a certain group or just an open track?

Re: autocross

The place I did it at was Bermerton Raceway. It's across the water from Seattle, WA. It's an old runway that's been converted to a raceway. The BSCC (Bremerton Sports Car Club) was putting in on. On Sunday it was a joint event with and BSCC and the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America). I was there to race on Sunday, but I was called from work saying I had to come in. Oh well. On Sunday a there was a quite a few bad ass cars. Soyo I'd try to get to the autocross as soon as you can. It shows you the limits of your car and you can just go crazy. The hardest part on the run was a loop around. I'd get 2/3's though it a the back end would just want to slide out. The red line buzzer was also my best friend yesterday.

BTW: Watching a stock looking FD beat a corvette by a few seconds.......priceless.

Re: autocross

I love when sleepers beat vettes, its the best thing in the world, thats my goal with my car, beat vettes in 1/4 mile and track... on that note does anyone know what a vette runs in the 1/4 mile? and what does a Z06 vette run? I doubt I'll ever get that fast lol

Re: autocross

I believe regular vettes run 13's and Z06's can run mid to high 12's

Re: autocross

I have been autocrossing for 2.5 years now. I just took the FTD away from a A-prepared factory 5 Cobra last weekend.

If you want to see some pics from the weekend go here.

http://www.jims5543.com/gallery/May2004autox
We had 6 RX-7's there.

Pics of my car if your interested:

I piss off a lot of domestic owners with the car. No one ever gives it more than a sideways glance before it runs. Then after my runs it gets lots of visitors trying to figure ot how it could be beating Cobra kit cars and Z-06's so bad.

Gotta love the sleeper that is a TII.

Re: autocross

Well I didn't pre-register and I wasn't a member so I payed $30. Then about $6-8 in gas to drive there and run. Also my front tires got a good beating so after a second event I'd need to rotate them for sure.

Re: autocross

You need to wear a helmet, but they provided loaner helmets. Let me tell you though. I'm 6'2 and the helmet was rubbing the ceiling. I had to adjust the seat a little to get comfortable.
