You'll need a complete donar GT car. Be ready for a lot of work.

So, are the main computers the same? Does the wiring harness off the GT plug into the 1.9 plugs? Is there anything special i might need?

Re: 1.8L DOHC (bpt) engine swap

The 1.9 motor is ford while the 1.8 motor is Mazda. They share nothing in common besides the motor mount location.
Every thing under the hood of a GT is different then a lx, that is why it would be easyer just to have a donar car for all the little parts your gonna need.

The 1.9 motor, computer and harness is Ford. The 1.8 motor, computer and harness is Mazda. No they are not compatible.
It would be like trying to plug a Honda motor into a cavalier harness and computer, not gonna happen.

actually it is more like putting a mitsubishi stratus motor into a neon... which ironiclly enough share most things in common, including trannys. huh

lx gt swap

to do the swap from a 1.9 to a 1.8 you need the 1.8 engine the computer and the wire harness all of which you can get at you local pick and pull or pick a part but i myself would go with a rebuilt engine and get the rest from a wrecking yard oh and you can use the same tranny no need to buy a new one...

Re: 1.8L DOHC (bpt) engine swap

If you have a Escort GT, you'll need to reuse your tranny.
If you have a Escort LX you'll need a 1.8 GT tranny.

If your gonna go through the trouble of an engine swap, why settle for 127 hp. you might as well get the 180 hp 1.8l out of a japanese GTX or the 210 hp version from the GTR and use the motor mounts and stuff from the escort gt. it would be the same amount of work but much more rewarding.

the Jspec engines can be found at corksport.com

actually I was just referring to the 1.8l escort gt motor... do all of these things still apply?

Jeremy

BTW- if I had the money to go with the GTX I deffinetly would but a friend of mines cousin got his GT side swiped by a blazer and I can get the whole car for about $300...

Re: 1.8L DOHC (bpt) engine swap

I am driving a 1993 excort lx 1.9l. I found a gt 1.8l same year and am interested in doing an engine swap. its easier and cheaper for parts for the gt then the lx. The tranny in the gt is blown, but everything else runs fine. I wanna keep my lx cause it's a wagon, and I loveth my wagon. I wanna swap out everything possible in the gt though. What will I need and is it possible?
