tahoe rear door speakers....GRRRRRRRR
i have a 2000 z71 (old body style). the factory radio's speed controlled volume was all messed up and it also cut in and out. i replaced the factory radio with a new panasonic aftermarket deal. works great everything is fine.
i put in 6x9's where the old 4x10's used to be above the barn doors, along with new component speakers in the front doors using the existing factory wiring. they all work great. i tried to do the same exact thing for the rear doors. i cut the factory clip that attached to the speakers, and wired them directly to the new after market speakers. there's NO sound. the stock speakers worked before, even after i installed the head unit and other speakers. i talked to some guy that thinks he knows about car audio, and he tells me there is an amp turn on wire that needs to be powered for the rear speakers. this sounds wrong. i dont understand because there were 2 wires going to the factory speaker, and the same two wires (+ and -) are going to the new aftermarket speakers. i've tried + to +, - to - AND + to -, - to +. i'm pulling my hair out over here trying to fix this. |

Re: tahoe rear door speakers....GRRRRRRRR
i have read that thread before and damn near every single one on these boards looking for a fix, thanks for taking the time to search. what i dont understand is why in the world would the factory speakers work with my new head unit, but the after market ones wont. it's the same wires going to different speakers.
i will have to take apart the dash and give this solution a try though, since 5 people can't *(hopefully)* be wrong. |

i've just tried turning the factory amp on via connecting the blue "power antenna" wire in the back of the aftermarket head unit, to the blue wire in the factory wiring harness. the rear door speakers still don't work. i also tried connecting the power antenna wire to the factory brown wire. no results.
does anyone have a wiring diagram so i can see where i messed up. it seems no one has had this problem. again, the factory speakers work in the read doors, but the aftermarkets dont. could i have shorted something maybe, by clipping both the speaker wires at once with wire clippers? |

getting closer
don't use the power antanna wire...this doesn't send out a signal when the deck is playing a CD. use a wire tester and find a wire what sends out signal the whole time the deck is on....also are you sure the speakers aren't playing a little bit. see most decks are designed for 4 speakers hence why on your deck it probably says something like 50x4 or 45x4. that is saying its sending out 50 watts of power to 4 speakers. stock speakers don't take much power so they worked...new ones take more power. just a thought

Connect the Blue wire to the red wire that you deck hook to that should fix it all so the is a fuse for the factory amp check that i thank it is in the fuse box in the cab but it may be under some opitonal Equment fuse just check them all see if the aftermarket speaker stll work hope it helps
