Question '89 4wd swap?

it may be a stupid question, but i was wondering if there is any way to swap a different engine than the d16 (im assuming) into an 89 4wd wagon. the car is in immaculate condition and he is selling it for very cheap, i figure since its 4wd it would be alot more fun to mod than a regular civic, plus no one has one. if anyone has any info on the car at all that would be great, thanks.

Any D series engine I'm guessing - but I have a feeling that the B series won't work as you'll need the D series gearbox to keep it AWD.

ZC's had a D series counterpart here - will they bolt up (looks around for ZC knowledgable people)?

Anythings possible...

I'm sure there is some way you could throw a different engine into it...

My dad threw a 351 Cleveland into his little datsun pick up back in the day... just shows that with enough effort, you could do it

Maybe ask a professional auto shop for their ideas?

So you don't want any kind of D series motor? Cause I don't see why you couldn't swap in a zc engine. It's a D series motor so it should be pretty easy. Or maybe SOHC VTEC. I forgot what the engine code is. But if you have you heart set on a B series, and you have the money, anything is possible. If you have the money. The only thing about droppin' in a B series that bothers me, is the tranny. I am not sure if the transfer case will work with a different tranny.

B and D series gearboxes have different mounting points and bolt hols. It's a wothless option if you want to keep the AWD. ZC it and then turbo that - then watch your transfer case blow up

Re: '89 4wd swap?

transfer cases for wagon can handle about what they come with d15. But i have seen a wagon with a turbo d16 v-tec motor.I have also heard of the wonderful world of zc's bolting up right nice. If you do a project like this BEWARE of the rear diff. The rear diff. gets real unhappy with more hp and torque.
