Ok i know this is cause a limiter or a governor is put on the transmission(so i've read) but whats the real reason behind this. In the real worl i can see why ford would do this, probably cause the average joe dont go over 85-90mph, but it's good to know you have the power to get past 105. Funny when you put the pedal to the metal and it reaches i believe around 105/108 mph, then all the rpm's drop and you just get your acceleration cut off. I've read somewhere, that at the time of production the thunderbirds had stock tires that where not high speed tested tire/so thats the reason they put on the limiter-IS THIS TRUE??
These cars are great though, i mean, as far as a 0-60 car/with work it can be really good. Mainly though, they are more like a 60-100mph car, it takes off like a bullet at high speeds. PS.. Any of you test drive a lt1 9c1 ex Cop car(caprice) those 95's are shit for 0-60, but man o man 50 and on, WATCH OUT.. |

Re: 95 T-Bird, Can't Drive past 105mph??
103 If I believe and a new chip should handle the problem. The reason I have no idea, but I know how it works. It cuts off half the injectors at a certain speed.

Re: 95 T-Bird, Can't Drive past 105mph??
They limit the speed due to driveshaft balance and tire limitations. Check your speed rating on your tires. Also you will probably get bad driveline vibration over the production speed limit.

Re: 95 T-Bird, Can't Drive past 105mph??
More or less what viperlady said. The driveshaft start to oscillate at higher rpms/speeds. If it should decide to let go, you'll quickly learn why there is a driveshaft loop installed on your car from the factory. SC's and Mk's had much better quality shafts used and have no speed limiters. Do yourself a favor, if you reburn your chip to eliminate the governor, get a Mk8 driveshaft in the process.....

Re: 95 T-Bird, Can't Drive past 105mph??
true, i've seen first hand what can happen when a drive shaft breaks and believe me, it's not a pretty sight, i guess i'm lucky though, my car doesn't have a govener on it, i've had my speedo burried before, but that was when i was in my teens, i still crack back on it every now and then, but that's only when a honda needs to be taught a leason
