Question Seat Belt Installation?

Hello all,

We drive a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 regular cab. We want to put a shoulder seat belt in the center instead of the lap belt so our daughter can be more safe in her booster seat there. Does anyone know if this can be done? I would like to do it myself if it doesn't require welding but I will take it somewhere to have it done if need be. I have no idea where to go to have it done though.

If anyone has any thoughts or information regarding this, I would be most grateful!! Thank you!!

Re: Seat Belt Installation?

You COULD manufacture something yourself, like if you took the padding off the back of the cab I guess and welded everything you need to the back of the cab there, if you really wanted to.

Probably talk to your dealer, and find out from them if you have any options. They might just try and sell you a newer truck with a back seat though. Try it and see what happens...

Re: Seat Belt Installation?

Hmm.
Hard one to figure.
I think using a seat belt assembly out of a convertible, like a sebring might work, but I'm not sure you have any room for the retractor assembly....

You might be able to use an old (93-back) seat belt assembly, mounted to the floor, beneath the seat, but you'll need something manufactured to brace the upper guide.

I don't think anything you can do or have done would satisfy a safety inspection or "standard", but it would probably keep your kids safe and secure, nonetheless.
