99 ranger overheating

I have a 99 Ranger 4.0L, as I drive around high way or streets the temp gauge slowly climbs up to the (H) and slowly goes back down to about half way between the normal temp and high then slowly climbs back up. any Ideas, I'm good on antifreeze, the upper hose is very hot. I tried turning on the heater but it doesn't seem to make any difference, could the waterpump be at fault?, thanks

Re: 99 ranger overheating

Replace the " thermastat. " The current one is probaly shot! Also recheck your fluids or just drain the system, flush, then refill.

The thermastat cost $2.00.

I have a 99 as well.
Good Luck.

Re: 99 ranger overheating

I am also having the same overheating problem with my 99 ranger. Will try replacing T-stat.
Anyone else have problems with front brakes?

overheating

Yeah the T-stat should absolutely be the solution, my front brakes have always givin me problems every 6 months the front dics are gone. I still haven't quite solved the problem. I've head that ceramic pads really help on the rangers.

Re: 99 ranger overheating

T-stat will fix the overheating.
As far as Brakes go. Autozone has lifetime warratny pads for about 20 bucks. I'm still changing the pads on my 94 ranger every 8 months or so, but at least it's not costing anything.
