Demystifying the 95 Chevy Silverado:
I've had some heartburn with this vehicle and I'm looking for some assistance.
I have a 95 Chevy Silverado, 2WD, 350 (Not vortec), 130,000K. This will be the third time in the life of the vehicle that I have to take it to the dealer and get a huge bill, because the truck makes this whining sound out of the rear end. The noise is at wheel speed. The pitch alters based on how fast you are going. Here is the pickle that I am in. I hit a dear this year with this truck. The deer wrecked the grill and drivers side all the way down the box. I had full coverage so I got the vehicle repaired and pretty much all new parts. Now the trucks looks like new ... but sounds like junk. I'm not sure whether to fix it up or unload it. A long time ago I heard through the grapevine that there was a known issue with the 92-95 Chevy 2WD pick-ups: 1.) The brakes are not heavy duty enough to stop the vehicle properly, 2.) The vehicle does not come with a Transmission Oil Cooler #2, is what I think my problem is. My college professor told me that without a transmission oil cooler, your trasmission fluid gets too hot and foams up, which leads to the parts not getting lubed, and hence the sound of a jet turbine coming from the rear end. What should I do? If the transmission oil cooler is really the issue - shouldn't I be able to go to GM and request that they put one on and fix the problem in the manner it should have been in the first place? Or should I foot the bill for the repair, and then add a transmission oil cooler? Or should I just off load it? Thanks in advance to all who reply! |

Wow, man that is a mouth full,,, sorry to hear about hte deer.how was it ?.
The rear ends on these things do whine ,don't ask me on my 95 i pulled it out and put a dana 44 in and it has been good so far. As for your mentore ,he is correct! I would put a cooler w/thermistat up in front of the radiator. this will give it good air flow. and it has room in front of the airconditoner condenser. Have a good day. |
