Possessed Wipers Please Help!
Ok, heres the low-down; 88 S-10 Blazer 165k miles 2.8L V6.
Heres the problem: Up until a few months ago, about a third of the time I would activate the turning signal the wipers would kick in for a quick trip across the windshield. I never had a problem with this until recently. Now, I will be cruising down the road and the wipers will decide that the windshield is dirty...and help me out with a quick dust off. ![]() The wipers function beautifully when I swtich them on. If anyone has any idea what this could be let me know please! Otherwise let me know your possessed car experiences. |

Re: Possessed Wipers Please Help!
sound like the wire is broken off in the turn signal arm, Happened on my 89. Had to break down the colume and pull the switch. Because the wire was shortened a little to do the repair, ensure there is enough slack to make up for it. I ended up replacing the turn signal arm becuase it broke off again. Had to do the same job twice :-(

[quote=Mistersponge][size=2][font=arial][color=blue]Ok, heres the low-down; 88 S-10 Blazer 165k miles 2.8L V6.
Heres the problem: Up until a few months ago, about a third of the time I would activate the turning signal the wipers would kick in for a quick trip across the windshield. My '90 Blazer has had the same issue. From what I've been able to determine, the turn signal arm on the S-10 series is prone to breaking and minor shorts like this (I also had to stop using my cruise control because it kept blowing the fuses for the main instrument console...when the majority of your driving is one the freeway, it's very unsettling to have no idea how fast you're going or how much fuel you have left!) I'm replacing the turn signal arm (as soon as the replacement part gets here...) I expect this to resolve the problem. It's a priority at this point, because the arm is really broken...the wiper/cruise switch assembly is dangling from the rest of the arm by the wires. Hopefully, the replacement is a little more durable (of course, I'm pushing 270k miles, so durability is a relative question...) |
