radiator cooling fan motor

Radiator cooling fan motor went out yesterday (one on passenger side) and we quickly unplugged power to it to prevent further smoking. Other one on drivers side was still working. Went and got fan motor today and replaced bad one. Now have everything back together, neither fan is working. Tried letting van idle and turned on AC wide open. Still nothing. Have seen things mentioned about relay switches???? Could this be it? Also checked fuse, but seemed fine. 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager-3.3 liter engine. Please help ASAP---going to Florida in 5 days and am trying to fix this myself without taking into chrysler place. Also check engine light is now on.. seen things about "codes" but have no idea how to find these codes.
