Speckles on car.

I just bought a new car. When I got it home, i noticed 4 small scratches on one side that are a little deep and on the other side, there are 3 light scratches. The bumper and passenger side has some kind of yellow substance on it and the bumper has these weird speckles. The dealer has offered to fix everything for free. Should I have the stuff fixed? Is it possible the dealer will do a poor job and the car will look worse later on? Should I try to return the car? Will the clear coat come off with the speckles and light scratches?

Re: Speckles on car.

On many cars, the yellow on the bumpers is actually the color of the bumper. As for your scrathes,if they are as deep as you say,I would recommend taking the car back to the dealer for the "FREE" repairs. If you were to do it yourself, you would have to buy some touch-up paint, towels, etc. If he wasnt a shotty dealer, then they will do a good job. After all,the sales guy isnt the one doing the repairs, right?

If you do take your car back(Which I recommend) it will be in good hands. It will be repaired by people that know what they're doing.(I hope). And since they are repairing it,they should get these "Speckles" you keep talking about.Bottom line,if its from the dealer, and its free, take it.

Re: Speckles on car.

But if they buff out the scratches, wont that take away some of the clear coat and leave the cars paint less protected? Is it worth trying to return the car for an identical model without these defects or should I just have them fix it?

Ok,this changes everything. If you have the possibility to get the same model, but without these defects, then go for it.It will leave the car less protected if they buff out those defects but only if you dont care for it in the long run.It would also be worth exchanging the car if you havent done anything to it.Such as any mods,or novelty items such as those decorative dice. And if the car doesnt hold any sentimental value to you.

Re: Speckles on car.

I asked the dealer if it would be possible to switch the car with another one and they never said no. They just said that lot damage is a common thing and that the problems will be professionally fixed. It is a 2004 civic. We may be able to return it but we would really have to push. If they buff it, 5 years from now will it oxidize and look horrible?

It's hard to say if they'll buff or what they'll do without seeing the damage. Most of the time dealers use Air brush touch-up companies for stuff like that. If it's bad enough then the body shop will take care.
