Unhappy valve problem

i have a 1974 blazer with a 350 engine.
well anyway, the engine makes a clicking noise, my pops told me that it was one of the valves hitting something and that it should be fixed right away. so before i could take it to someone who knows what they are doing my dad opened the covers and started messing with the valves. he tightened some and loosened others. and now the blazer runs like shit. can anyone tell me or show me how to fix it or do i really have to take it to someone. i want to work on it myself as much as possible. thanks.

Re: valve problem

ur dad probably did more harm than good to ur trusty blazer, there is a specific way u are supposed to adjust ur rocker arms, if u do it wrong , some of them wont open up all the way and if u get them to tight u can bend ur pushrods the clicking noise u have.....has it been doin tihs for a while or did it just start, is it loud or just barely noticeable, does it go up wiht the engine rpms or what??
