Is it a 5.7 LT1 or a 327??

I have what I think is a 94 Caprice LT1 9C1 5.7, VIN P cop car, at least that is what the id sticker says. However, yesterday I was under the car changing the tranny fluid and filter, and noticed raised "327" stamped on both sides of the bottom block. The top end of the motor looks exactly like every other 5.7 LT1 Vette motor I've ever seen, including 2 cop buddies who have the 94 here in Ohio. Looks the same as Nemesis's 96 Caprice and Impala SS also. A guy at Jeg's told me about a month ago that the 5.7 police Vette motor should have L99 stamped on the block...not sure if that is correct or not.

So what do I have?? I'm taking it in to the dealer this week for what is probably going to be a crank sensor replacement, so hoping they'll be able to shed some light on this. Or, does the "327" stand for something else altogether? Thanks!

chevy never cast the intended displacement into the bottom ofthe block, they however did on the top near the tranny mounts by the dist.

most post-87 blocks say '5.0L G or 5.7L G'

they started casting the liter size on the bellhousing ledge top side where casting date and code always been casted in the past

casting numbers on outside of engine down low on block have nothing ot do with cubic inch size of the block

good luck

Re: Is it a 5.7 LT1 or a 327??

So I have learned...it is indeed a 5.7L LT1/9C1. I just spent almost $1200 getting my sweetie all fixed up. For anyone who wants to know...I had the fuel pump, strainer, fuel filter, distributor, opti cap and rotor, tensioner pulley and serp belt all replaced. Goddam, is this car fast or what???

Another reason I NEVER call Jegs! L99 is the 4.3L V8 that is dubbed the 'Baby LT1'.

if you new you have 94' caprice there is no way it's a 327, that motor came in the 63' and 65' impala ss back in the 60's, if you have a 91-96 it's a 350 V8 LT1 9C1 or police package

According to Chevy Police Cars and 9c1.com, the only two engines available for 94-96 in a Caprice was the 4.3L (265-cid) V8 or 5.7L (350-cid V8).
