increasing gas mileage on a 91?

my 91 accord is getting some really shitty gas mileage...barely even 20 city and i drive it very conservative...never taking it above 3000 rpm on streets

i have an air intake, exhaust, and a custom catalytic converter and i was told this could cause my mileage to go down??

what are some things i can do to increase mileage per gallon?

i did a fuel system cleaner and it barely did anything to my mileage

Re: increasing gas mileage on a 91?

well u might wanna get a tune up then to see if that helps. Also putting intake and exhaust should help ur mileage. It lets ur engine breathe easier so then engine will run more easier and smoothly. i dunno if compression leak down would hurt gas mileage but maybe that could be the cause. also running rich and stuff like that. U should try ask a professional mechanic to check it out for ya and maybe he will find ur problem. they will probably only charge like 40 bux to take a look and if they fix it for u then u only pay the labor and parts (not the check up fee). well good luck man!

i think there was a tune-up done before i bought the car

i took it to one mechanic and he says gas mileage is something that you shouldnt even bother working on...and thats the only shop i get free quotes from

any manual things i can do? change fuel filter? new computer? i dont kno what to do this low mpg is pissing me off

Get the car current on maintenance. Spark Plugs, Plug Wires, Distrib. cap/rotor, Air Filter, PCV Valve, Fuel Filter, Valve Adjustment, Oil, Trans Fluid, Coolant, *Timing Belt/Water Pump*, Timing Adjustment, Idle Adjustment, etc. Once that's all done drive normal(under 4,000RPM) & see how the gas mileage is.

Gas mileage numbers are tested under PERFECT conditions, which is BS in real world.
