Re: VTEC Problem!!

when my vtec kicks in now it revs all the way up to 7000 in 2nd 34d and 4th gears is that all to expect from a stock jdm b16a? Becasue the rev limit specs say 8200 but it won't go that high on the tach it stops at 7000..

It may be because of the ECU...is it the right 1 for that motor?

Re: VTEC Problem!!

well it is a p30 delsol ecu and on the motor it says p30 in a couple of places like on the starter it says and another place on the intake manifold... But the thing is I unplugged the solenoid and oil pressure switch and the engine only reved up to 5000 and when I plugged it back in it went to 7000 so I think its working aliright...

Re: VTEC Problem!!

what should my jdm b16a sir2 engine be redlining at with vtec hooked up... I may have ecu problems because my engine light is on... I got info on wiring vtec up with a stock harness, but the pins on the ecu where the vtec wires go are already taken by another wire, and the ecu is a p30 came with motor..I didn't have vtec before so I know I don't have the wiring already hooked up for it in my harness..If any one can make sense of this please do????

Re: VTEC Problem!!

Have you considered the idea that your tach might be off? If your motor is hitting 7000rpms, then there is no reason it can't hit 8200rpm. Are you bouncing the revs (hitting cutoff)? Limp mode is about 3500 rpms (below 5000).

Re: VTEC Problem!!

its a possibility.. my engine revs as high as it will go and hits no cutoff, called a rev limiter too right.. my check engine light is on too but I don't have the knock sensor hooked up because their is a wire already in its place on the ecu..Its pin d3.. I dunno whats goin on..

Re: VTEC Problem!!

What ECU? If it isn't chipped not to look for the knock sensor, that could be a problem. As far as repinning it, easy, depending on ECU you just have to move one pin.

Re: VTEC Problem!!

If the ECU is lookin for a knock ensor, it will not engage vtec, and shouldn't rev past vtec engagement point.

Re: VTEC Problem!!

I got my vtec to finally work. But now when I drive it for like 10 minutes the engine light comes on and vtec kicks out.. When I shut the car off and restart it resets itself, but in like 5mins it does it again.. Does the oil pressure have something to do with this problem?
