Question 92 dakota code 42 auto shutdown circuit

ok im lost. i have tried as much as i can figure out and the haynes manual is no help at all. So here we go, this is what i have done and what the truck is doing. the truck will not start because of no fuel. i get a code 42 but have no idea how to check this part of the system. i have put in a new auto shutdown relay, new fuel filter, pulled the tank and checked the wires and fuel pump. checked the wires spliced together comin out of the fuse box under hood. i am lost now. what makes the relay close? i know it wont allow power to the pump if it does not recieve a signal that the dist is firing. what sends this signal? the pump comes on for a sec like its sposed to but thats all. if i pour fuel down the intake it runs fine tilll the fuels gone.all the fuses are good. any help would be greatly appreiciated this is my work truck and i am losing money on it everyday if i cant get it running this weekend to the shop it goes cant wait anymore! thanks for the help
