New idea.

I figured a better way to design the box for the subs however , I still went through the seat removal process. Maybe I should have some kelly padded roll bars installed or something there instead ?

But my new idea is to use the "Trunk" space in the far back. I measured it out and it's a even 40 1/2" by 13 1/2" both ways. SO I figured I'd get some 5/8's partical board , cut it to measurements and see how she sounds after sealing the edgers with a silicone and putting a white band around it ( for cosmetic purposes. ) if it works out then I will be totally stoked about it. If not..I will just leave it there anyways and design the original plexi-glass one in the rears seats like originally planned.

Re: New idea.

I don't want 10's though. I have a set of kicker comp 800 watt 12"s I am going to remove from the bandpass box wich currently occupies the space ( where a back seat would be. ) behind my seats.sides , I only have a 2 channel amp.

Re: New idea.

I called HOME DEPOT for the wood and gave them the measurements. They will cut the wood for 4.00 and the charge of the wood is 8.00 so for 12 bucks. I am going to experiment with this. IF it fails , it's not like I am losing hundreds. so it's all good.

Re: New idea.

I would highly recommend NOT using partical board.. I wouldnt use that shit for anything..

If your gonna make your own box.. I would suggest 3/4" MDF (medium density fiberboard)

Ive designed a few boxes that sit in the rear tub and they've worked out really well.. One runs two 10" apine Rseries.. and mine runs two 12" Eclipse's

Re: New idea.

I'm just using this as an experimental thing. If it turns out well. I will swich it to 1/4" plexi-glass.

Re: New idea.

The inner walls behind the seat where the 6X9' s go is big enough to hold tens with some cutting and deep enough I think I am going to check on about doing this as well.

Re: New idea.

I'm not maxing it a "box" I am just laying down a 12" by 2 peice of wood over the space of my trunk and create a center peice to seperate the chambers ( giving it the desired cubic footing. ) and slap my 12's in. Keep my amp in the spare tire well. put my ferred on the other side in my lock box with jumper cables and various other small things .

All I am creating is a top panel ( for now ) and sealing it with some silicone , white stripping and painting the box either red , or metallic purple.and use some thin 1/16's polymer botton seals to make sure of air tightness. So , I went and have the wood made. screwed the other peice to make a "T" to create 2 sealed chambers and I spray painted half of it before I got bored and decided to play marvel vs capcom 2. So anyways , I primed it first though with a base gray primer ,it's a smooth finish 5/8's press board so it's turning out not too shabby. Like I said , this is just expiremental and if it turns out to kick just as much bass as the bandpass box ( Which was obviously designed for speakers that need massive air flow as it has 2 - 4" ports for each sub.) then I will convert this to a plexi-glass system. BUt as it sits now , I bought the kicker 12"s and some one gave me the box. I put them in and they aren't hitting to their full potential in that box so ...just trying a new idea. If it works , Great , If not , well....back to the drawing board eh ?

Re: New idea.

But yeah , I will have an update for you tomorrow on how this goes. Should be completed tomorrow bout noonish or so. except for the silicone drying.so in about 14 hours then XD

I hope this works.

Oh , I also compensated for the edges to be shaved to 1/8"s thick so it slides just snug ( by force ) under the rear plastic panelling peices to ensure a good fit that looks good. No rough edges and what now. I suppose that's about all for that for now.

Re: New idea.

Alrighty then. Paint is drying and the silicone is setting up so before I drop the subs in , I want that all completely dry. SHouldn't take too long. I used Liquid Nails.

Re: New idea.

It's a success. Sounds way better than having the free air subs in the dual bandpass quad ported box.

So , both the 12" dual band pass box and the expirement plate I used are both going for sale on ebay or something. YEAH!!! I'm all stoked about this. I hope with the P'glass it sounds just as good if not better. As it will have better precusion.

Re: New idea.

glad to hear it worked out for you

Plexi glass will always sound better than wood.. But I think 1/4" in sounds way too thin? maybe 1/2" would be good..especially for 12's But ive never worked with plexiglass enclosures..

Re: New idea.

Well all Home Depot has ( To my knowledge ) is just the 1/4 , Or so there is only only the shelfs 1/4". And your right , It is kinda thin for my purpose but I was thinking of maybe making two identical sheets and like throwing some clear cement glue between them to make a 'single' peice. I dunno..Oh , Plus it's going to be chambered so it will also have supports in the middle 6"s apart runing down to the bottom of the trunk.

I'm happy it worked too becuase I mean come on...two kicker 12"s in a dual bandpass box..sounded like crap. My tahoe stock speakers hit harder -_-' I was just sick of it.

It's like I said before , that box is not compatible with those speakers , V -> V. So yeah , something had to be done. I might go pick up 12 sony xplod 12"s and see how they work in there. If they pound good , I might jus throw it in the tahoe for my girl and if not , I dunno , Ebay I guess.
